The updated Champions League standings after matchday 4 in the competition are now official.

So, where do La Liga’s clubs sit after something of a mixed bag in European football’s elite club competition?

Leading the way for Spanish football are Hansi Flick’s Barcelona.

In the midst of a scintillating recent run of form, the Blaugrana’s 5-2 downing of Red Star Belgrade has guided them onto nine points, good enough for a spot in 6th in the table.

And also climbing after a vital victory of their own on Wednesday night were Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid.

Owing to a last-gasp 2-1 victory at Paris Saint-Germain, Atléti moved onto six points, sitting 23rd in the standings whilst locked on points with a whole host of sides above them.

Turning attentions towards La Liga’s clubs to have struggled on the continent this week, the most prominent, of course, were Real Madrid.

Downed for the 2nd gameweek running, on this occasion at the hands of AC Milan, the reigning tournament holders have dropped to 18th in the Champions League standings.

And also falling were Girona, whose third defeat in four leaves the Catalans languishing in a lowly 29th.
