For the last several years, FC Barcelona have had serious disagreements with La Liga regarding their financial activities and compliance with the league’s Financial Fair Play rules.
A consequence of this has been the Catalan club not being able to make their desired moves in the market, as they were not allowed to operate on the 1:1 rule.
Now, the Blaugranes seem to be at risk of facing penalties from UEFA as well, as a report from Diario AS claims that Barcelona have reportedly breached UEFA’s financial rules for the second consecutive year, and thus run the risk of being fined by the European organization.
Two other notable European clubs, Chelsea and Newcastle United, have also reportedly breached these rules. However, they have breached these rules for the first time, and thus, they are likely to face lighter penalties than Barça.
UEFA sources consulted by Diario AS did not comment on the findings of the Club Financial Control Board, as it is an external body, but they revealed that a statement will be published by UEFA in this regard in the coming few days.
The European organization always publicizes information about the clubs that violate their regulations, and this is also going to be the case with Barcelona, Chelsea, and Newcastle United.
Last year, in October, the Blaugranes had lost an appeal with the CAS against a fine of €500,000 that UEFA had imposed on them for misreporting its earnings. CAS’s ruling also clearly mentioned that sanctions would be harsher in case of future violations.
UEFA usually negotiates the amount of a fine with violating clubs. However, as this is a case of repeat offence from Barcelona, they can face some sporting punishments, like limiting the number of players they can register for the UCL or even a points deduction for the upcoming season.
