Barcelona board want Hansi Flick to follow Pep Guardiola’s lead this summer | OneFootball

The brass at La Liga champions Barcelona are keen to see manager Hansi Flick follow in the lead of Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola over the weeks ahead.

This comes ahead of a predicted change of captaincy at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona’s current captain, of course, is goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

With the German international now considered somewhat surplus to requirements owing to the arrival of Joan García, however, Ter Stegen is expected to be stripped of his role as dressing room leader imminently.

And in choosing his compatriot’s replacement, Hansi Flick has been urged to follow in the footsteps of the aforementioned Pep Guardiola.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:

‘There is a current of opinion within the club that is inclined to tweak the structure of the captaincy and thinks it is best for the coach to intervene, along the lines of what Pep Guardiola has done at City.’

After previously allowing his squad to choose their own captain, former Barca boss Guardiola this time round took charge of the situation himself, appointing Bernardo Silva as his side’s skipper.

And those in the boardroom at the Camp Nou are keen for Hansi Flick to do likewise, in choosing Ter Stegen’s successor.
