FC Barcelona have an important game midweek as they take a difficult trip to Lisbon to face Benfica in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. The Catalan club knows how good the Portuguese side can be, having just faced them recently in an absolute thriller.

When these two teams faced each other in the UCL League Phase, Barcelona prevailed over their Portuguese opponents with a dramatic, last-gasp 5-4 win. Raphinha on that night, emerged the hero, but Robert Lewandowski scored two goals to help the Catalan club.

Now, it has emerged as per Mundo Deportivo that Lewandowski will be taking on his favorite opponents in terms of goal-scoring when Barcelona face Benfica. The Pole has had a stellar record against the Portuguese side since his time at Bayern Munich.

Everyone knows that the Pole is the third leading goalscorer in the Champions League behind just Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. In his 128 matches in the competition, Lewandowski has scored against 37 different opponents.

Among those, the most goals that the 36-year-old has scored against a single opponent is Benfica against whom he has found the back of the net 9 times. It is quite an impressive statistic, considering he has only faced them 7 times.

This goal tally looks even more impressive when you consider that they have come in just 5 matches. Surely, the Portuguese side will not want the Pole to have a good game this time around when he makes the trip to Lisbon.

Lewandowski has received some criticism in recent weeks as he has gone off the boil but he still manages to chip in with goals here and there. The Pole is missing his clinical touch in front of goal though and hopefully his favorite opponents can bring it back.

Having already scored two against them earlier this season, the next two games provide the veteran striker with an opportunity to further enhance his goal tally against Benfica and if he does, it could only mean good things for Barcelona. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
