UEFA have published a press release on Thursday detailing the stadiums that are set to bid to host both the Champions League and Women’s Champions League in 2027.

Of all the stadiums mentioned, two Spanish grounds are up for contention, one for the Champions League final and another for the final of the Women’s Champions League.

Atlético Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano is the ground slated to be bidding for the Champions League final, having already hosted the 2019 edition which was contested between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

On that occasion, Liverpool came out victorious in a 2-0 win, with an early penalty converted by Mohamed Salah, and Divock Origi dramatically netting a second in the last few minutes of the match.

Barcelona’s newly renovated Camp Nou is the ground set to bid for the Women’s Champions League final, in what would be the fourth time the showpiece fixture would be played on Spanish soil.

The ground is the record-holder for the highest attendance for a women’s football match, which was set at 91,648 for a Women’s Champions League tie between Barcelona and Wolfsburg in 2022.

The other stadium in the running for the Champions League final is the Olympic Stadium in Baku, whilst the National Stadium in Warsaw, St. Jakob Park in Basel and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff are set to bid for the Women’s Champions League final.
