Atletico Madrid have agreed personal terms with AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez ahead of a potential move this summer (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

The Frenchman is gearing up for the next chapter in his career after turning down Milan’s renewal offer.

His proposed move to Al-Hilal has reportedly fallen through despite Milan’s agreement worth €35 million with them.

Hernandez wants to compete at the highest level, allowing Atletico to enter the transfer race.

The 27-year-old came through the youth ranks of Atletico before joining arch-rivals Real Madrid in 2017.

He has now given his approval for his homecoming, although there is still plenty of work to be done for Atletico.

The Spanish giants have tabled an offer worth €17 million, but there is a significant gulf with Milan’s valuation.

Atletico believe they can formalise a deal with the Italian giants after the Club World Cup.

Milan may not have the leverage in negotiations as the Frenchman has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

Atletico have prioritised signing a new left-back, with Reinildo Mandava set to part ways with the club this summer.

Hernandez has recorded 34 goals and 45 assists in 262 appearances for Milan. He played a key role in their Serie A title win in 2021-22 and the Italian Super Cup triumph earlier this year.

Atletico recently completed the permanent transfer of Argentine goalkeeper Juan Musso from Atalanta.

They are also working on the signings of Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso and Villarreal’s Alex Baena.
