A loss to Villa would leave Erik ten Hag under huge pressure ahead of the international break
Scrutiny over Ten Hag’s position has intensified after last weekend’s shambolic 3-0 home defeat by Tottenham.
United then needed an injury-time equaliser from Harry Maguire to salvage a 3-3 draw at Porto on Thursday and defeat at Villa Park could leave Ten Hag on the brink.
Villa have made a strong start to the Premier League season under Unai Emery and, after their historic 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, will fancy their chances against United.

Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onana were both forced off in the win over Bayern and that leaves them as doubts for this weekend’s clash.
Villa are also likely to be without Matty Cash, while long-term absentees Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara are still someway of a return to action despite a return to training this week.
As for United, Fernandes will be available after his red card against Tottenham last week was overturned. Marcus Rashford should start at Villa Park after Ten Hag revealed he replaced him at half-time against Porto for rotation reasons.
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are reportedly set for a return following the upcoming international break, while there is no timeline on Leny Yoro’s comeback from a injury he suffered in pre-season.

While United did do the double over Villa last season despite finishing eighth, things have got even worse for the Red Devils in the time since.
It is hard to see anything but a win for Unai Emery’s side, who will be on top of the world after their midweek heroics, and another defeat for ten Hag in what could be his final game in charge.
