Aston Villa's Champions League journey came to a dramatic end as a 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in Tuesday's quarter-final second leg was not enough to overturn the deficit on aggregate.
A 3-1 win in the first leg looked sure to provide a platform for PSG to breeze into the semi-final and they found themselves in an imposing position when goals from Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes had them 2-0 up after just 28 minutes here.
Youri Tielemans managed to pull one back late in the first half and John McGinn tied things up in the second, before Villa turned into animals as they tore through PSG's defence over and over again. Ezri Konsa put the hosts ahead on the night and PSG had Gianluigi Donnarumma to thank for not shipping a fourth, fifth or even sixth in quick succession.
They had to hold on at times but PSG managed to hold firm, limping through to the final four for a date with either Real Madrid or, most likely, Arsenal.
