Dominant from start to finish, the Rouge et Blanc comfortably won their second pre-season match against Coventry (0-5). It was a sparkling and convincing victory, marked by a hat-trick from Maghnes Akliouche.

A win to help gain momentum. A few days after beating Cercle Bruges (1-0), AS Monaco’s players confirmed their form this Wednesday by beating Coventry City in their second preseason match (0-5). A resounding victory was achieved on the Sir Bobby Charlton pitch at St. George’s Park, in the presence of President Dmitry Rybolovlev, who came to support the Rouge et Blanc in England. ✍️

For this second preseson match, Adi Hütter decided to field a flat 4-4-2, as he had against the Groen-Zwart, with in particular a Singo-Salisu central defence, Saïmon Bouabré on the left wing and the Brunner-Biereth duo in attack. The first minutes of the match were hotly contested in midfield, but did not lead to clear opportunities.

Mika “The fox” sets the tone

We had to wait until the 24th minute to see the first shot of the game from Jordan Teze, with a powerful volley that went wide (26′). Dangerous from a corner, the Rouge et Blanc finally found the opening with a superb shot on the turn by Mika Biereth (27′, 0-1)! This first goal from a Monegasque in preseason galvanized the Dane’s teammates who would press the accelerator.

A gem from Bouabré  to double the lead !

And on a good run by Saïmon Bouabré into the English box, the attacking midfielder trained at the Academy put the ball into the far corner with a subtle curling effort (37′, 0-2)! The tone was set and the half-time break came on this saem score despite another attempt from Paris Brunner (42′) and two threats to the goal of Radoslaw Majecki, who was vigilant (38′, 43′). The match would then resume in the second half with 20 new faces on the pitch.

New 45, new teams

The duels remain very contested, but the teammates of Breel Embolo were still dominant, even if the latter missed an opportunity to kill off the match (51′), before Thilo Kehrer was just short on a free kick by Caio Henrique (59′). The Rouge et Blanc finally built on their lead following a sublime one-two between Maghnes Akliouche and Krépin Diatta, resulting in a goal by the La Diagonale product (61′, 0-3) !

A hat-trick for Maghnes “Maestro” Akliouche

Our number 11, named MVP of last season by the AS Monaco supporters, would even score again thanks to an pass by Embolo in behind the defense (70′, 0-4). It was a real show of strength from Adi Hütter’s men, who barely trembled at the back (63′, 77′, 81′), and who even drove the nail in the coffin with… a hat-trick from Maghnes Akliouche in the final minutes (0-5, 86′)!

It put an exclamation point on of a match controlled from start to finish, which ended with Breel Embolo hitting the post (88′). It was a very large victory, one that was convincing for the Rouge et Blanc, who will face Nottingham Forest Saturday afternoon in Chesterfield at SMH Group Stadium at 16:00 CET.
