Just hours before a top-of-the-table clash against Paris Saint-Germain, AS Monaco have suffered a blow with their captain Denis Zakaria (28) ruled out with injury.

Zakaria suffered a hamstring injury during the warm-up ahead of the match against Toulouse FC earlier this month. He missed that match, as well as the defeat to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League just days later. He also missed the draw against Stade de Reims over the weekend, however, there were hopes that he would return to face PSG.

Adi Hütter said on Monday that there was a “possibility” of seeing the Switzerland international against Les Parisiens. He added that a decision on his participation against PSG, at the Stade Louis II on Wednesday night, would be taken on Tuesday. Monaco have now released their matchday squad and Zakaria is not in it.

Hütter said before the match against Arsenal that if Zakaria was not fit enough to face PSG, he would not feature again in 2024. It means that the midfielder is also expected to be absent from the Coupe de France fixture against L’Union Saint-Jean at the weekend. Against PSG, either Aleksandr Golovin or Soungoutou Magassa are expected to replace the Monaco captain.
