One position Manchester City do appear in need of cover in is at left-back. Recently, Nico O’Reilly has made the position his own with his strong performances. But the City academy graduate is a midfielder, and in time, he should progress to a role in the City midfield. O’Reilly’s rise has allowed Josko Gvardiol to shift across to centre-back. That appears to be the Croatian international’s best position going forward. Based on this it stands to reason that the world champions will move for a left-back this summer.

Recently, Esteemed Kompany sources revealed that Manchester City had drawn up a list of players they would look to target this summer. On that list was Bournemouth’s Hungarian international Milos Kerkez. Kerkez has had an impressive season at left-back for Bournemouth.

Now Lyall Thomas and Mark McAdam have reported for SkySports that Manchester City have an interest in signing Milos Kerkez this summer. Furthermore, the SkySports report indicates that Liverpool and Real Madrid are also interested in signing Kerkez this summer. It is further reported by SkySports that Kerkez is set to make a decision on his future at the end of the season. Lastly, SkySports adds that Kerkez wants to remain a first-team player if he moves to a bigger club.

Milos Kerkez is an attacking weapon and strong defensively, although he isn’t yet the finished product.

Milos Kerkez is an attacking left-back who is a weapon for Bournemouth going forward. His athleticism and pace is a huge weapon in his play. He bombs down the left-hand side for Andoni Iraola’s side and his delivery from out wide is a strong attribute of his play. This season, Kerkez has scored two goals and contributed six assists in 36 appearances in all competitions. But he isn’t a quality passer in the possession game just yet and that side of his game could improve.

Defensively, Kerkez is a good defender. He read the game well and that helps him intercept Bournemouth’s opponents play well. Kerkez isn’t strong in the air, nor is he strong in winning duels just yet. But you do sense that he could improve in winning duels as he gets more experience. The Hungarian international is only 21 years of age, so his best years are ahead of him, and he should develop into a quality left-back in the right environment.

If Manchester City were to sign Milos Kerkez he would add cover at left-back and could also become City’s number-one option in the role. That prospect remains a possibility. Although, Liverpool and Real Madrid have an interest in signing Kerkez as per SkySports report. There is merit to the notion of City signing the Hungarian international, so now it’s a story to watch for as City seeks to sign a left-back this summer.
