Despite interest from RC Lens, the Burkinabe defender from Ajaccio is nearing an agreement with the Breton club.

Arsène Kouassi is edging closer to joining FC Lorient. The Burkinabe left-back from AC Ajaccio is the subject of a strong push from Les Merlus, who are taking advantage of Lens’ financial difficulties to speed up negotiations and finalize his transfer.
The 20-year-old Burkinabe has been attracting attention for several months. RC Lens had shown early interest at the start of the summer transfer window, even submitting a formal offer to the Artésiens. However, a change in Lens’ sporting management put an end to that pursuit, opening the door for other suitors. Lorient now wants to seize the opportunity and secure the defender, who is under contract with Ajaccio until 2026.
According to Footmercato, the Breton management is counting on Ajaccio’s delicate financial situation, as the club has been ordered by the DNCG to make sales to balance their books. This budgetary constraint is turning into an advantage for Les Merlus, who are looking for young and affordable profiles to bolster their squad. Nevertheless, competition remains fierce. Several French sides are attempting a last-minute intervention to lure the young defender away from the Breton path. But Lorient’s lead in this race could prove decisive.
