Arsenal vs Villarreal Preview: Gyökeres Set for Emirates Debut

The Gunners will continue their preparations for the new campaign tonight as they play host to Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal head into the encounter off the back of a productive summer, balancing pre-season commitments with meaningful squad reinforcements.

Their recent tour of Asia proved particularly useful, with the return of key players and some encouraging individual performances. This encounter offers the perfect opportunity for new signings to continue their integration within the squad.

Team news: Debuts expected as injuries persist

The Gunners were without several key players during their Asia tour. However, the likes of Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyökeres, Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Magalhães are all in line to make their first starts of pre-season following late arrivals and recovery from injury issues.

As of writing, Riccardo Calafiori and Leandro Trossard did not take part in the most recent training session, casting doubt on their involvement. Both players sustained injuries during the tour and appear yet to return to full fitness. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Gabriel Martinelli also remain doubtful after recent setbacks.

Predicted XI and score forecast

Supporters will be eager to get a proper look at one man in particular: Viktor Gyökeres. The Swedish striker made a brief appearance against Tottenham and is expected to start this time out. Mikel Arteta has already hinted that both Gyökeres and Mosquera will be handed more minutes against the Yellow Submarine.

Due to fitness concerns around Trossard and Martinelli, Reiss Nelson is likely to feature from the start. In this predicted lineup, there is room for three summer arrivals, including full non-competitive debuts for both Mosquera and Gyökeres.
