Arsenal play their first home match of the 2025/26 Premier League season on Saturday, welcoming newly-promoted Leeds United to the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s side will be aiming to produce a more convincing performance after grinding out a 1-0 victory away at Manchester United on the opening day.
Arteta’s preparations have been hit by a significant injury to forward Kai Havertz. The German sustained a knee injury this week and has been ruled out of the Leeds fixture, although the club is yet to confirm how long he will be sidelined.
Havertz’s injury is understood to have accelerated Arsenal’s transfer plans, leading them to agree a £67.5m deal for Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze. However, the move will not be completed in time for him to feature on Saturday.
The manager faces another major problem at right-back, with fitness doubts over both Ben White and Jurriën Timber. White was absent from training this week, while Timber only participated in part of the session. A late decision will be made on both, but should neither be passed fit, new signing Cristhian Mosquera could be handed a debut.
Elsewhere, midfielder Christian Nørgaard remains unavailable. The main selection dilemma is on the left wing, where Noni Madueke is pushing for a start. Last week’s goalscorer Riccardo Calafiori will continue at left-back, with Viktor Gyökeres leading the line.
Arsenal predicted XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Ødegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Gyökeres, Martinelli.
The Premier League fixture takes place at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30pm BST.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League in the UK. Coverage begins at 5pm BST, and subscribers can stream the action via the Sky Go app.
