Declan Rice returned to full training with Arsenal this week, joined by Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz, as Mikel Arteta‘s side prepare for their final two Premier League matches. Rice’s return is the most significant development, following his surprise absence from the squad at Anfield on Sunday due to injury.

Arsenal offered no specific explanation at the time, simply listing Rice as “injured”. Speaking ahead of the draw with Liverpool, Arteta said: “Him and Jurrien are not fit, Declan couldn’t even train so he’s injured unfortunately and couldn’t make the game.” Reports since suggested the issue was related to a minor hamstring concern, although the club declined to confirm this.

Rice had previously missed only two matches through injury since joining from West Ham United in 2023. His durability has long been a hallmark of his game, and his swift return this week will be welcomed inside a squad that has grown increasingly stretched during the run-in.

Leandro Trossard, who appeared to suffer a hamstring problem during the Liverpool match, was also involved in the session. Though he was forced off, his presence at training suggests the issue was precautionary rather than serious. Trossard has been an important player this season, offering cover across the forward line and scoring crucial goals during the final months of the campaign.

Kai Havertz also took part in the session at the Emirates Stadium, having recovered from a serious hamstring injury that required surgery in February. He had been expected to miss the remainder of the season, but returned to training this week and could yet make an appearance before the campaign concludes.

Arsenal host Newcastle United this weekend before finishing away at Southampton. With the race for second still going, Arteta will want as many key players available as possible. The return of Rice, Trossard and Havertz arrives at a critical point.
