Arsenal’s £60m Midfield Signing Zubimendi Targets Liverpool in Title Challenge

Mentality shift at Arsenal

Journalist: Arsenal’s summer acquisition Martin Zubimendi has spoken openly about the cultural change he has experienced since leaving Real Sociedad, making clear that the Premier League demands a different mindset.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who arrived at the Emirates in a £60 million move, underlined the heightened expectations, particularly when compared to his formative years in Spain. “The main difference is mentality,” he said ahead of his debut against Manchester United. “Here, dropping points is simply not an option. The level of detail demanded by the manager is extraordinary and the preparation leaves no room for complacency.”

Zubimendi admitted that the transition has not been easy, but insists he is ready to embrace the challenge. “It’s been a different summer, one with greater intensity and higher demands, but I am here now and eager to start contributing.”

Liverpool interest rejected before Arsenal move

Twelve months ago, Zubimendi turned down interest from Liverpool in order to remain with boyhood club Real Sociedad. His decision then was rooted in loyalty and a sense of unfinished business in La Liga.

That stance shifted this summer when Arsenal formalised their interest. “Last year, I still felt I had a role to play for Sociedad and further steps to take,” he explained. “But this time, when Arsenal approached, I knew what I wanted. The way the team plays spoke for itself and I didn’t need convincing.”

It marks a significant statement of intent from Arsenal, who are positioning Zubimendi as a central figure in their pursuit of the Premier League title.

Arsenal’s title ambitions

The midfielder understands the scale of the challenge. If Arsenal are to secure their first league title in two decades, they must surpass not only holders Liverpool but also Manchester City and Chelsea.

Zubimendi has looked to Spain international team-mate Rodri for inspiration. “I admire him a lot, though we are very different players,” he said. “His success in England is something I want to replicate in my own way.”

Arsenal’s coaching staff believe his attributes will add control, composure and resilience to a midfield already reinforced with Declan Rice. The expectation is that his integration will allow Arsenal to close the gap on their fiercest rivals.

Fitness confirmed ahead of United clash

There had been some uncertainty surrounding his availability for the season opener. However, Mikel Arteta confirmed the midfielder has trained fully and is fit to feature.

“His integration has been excellent and his impact clear,” said the Arsenal manager. “We’re very pleased with how he has settled.”

For Arsenal, the signing of Zubimendi is not simply about this weekend but about setting foundations to compete consistently with Liverpool and City. His arrival reflects both their ambition and their belief that the fine margins of mentality, preparation and tactical detail can define the title race.
