Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel have been ruled out of Arsenal’s pre-season match against Tottenham on Thursday.

The Gunners face their north London rivals in Hong Kong before returning home for two final friendly fixtures ahead of the new season.

Calafiori started at centre-back in Arsenal’s win over Newcastle in Singapore but was replaced early in the second-half and went straight down the tunnel.

Mikel Arteta confirmed after the match that the Italian had a “little tweak” and that is enough to keep him out of the Spurs clash.

Gabriel, meanwhile, played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors match against Watford at the start of pre-season but has not featured since.

Asked for an update on the injury situation ahead of the friendly with Spurs, Arteta said: “Everybody is going to be ok apart from big Gabi who is still out and probably Riccy it's probably going to be a bit too early.”

William Saliba and Jakub Kiwior are likely to start at centre-back, though new signing Cristhian Mosquera could also feature.

Mosquera is one of six summer signings Arsenal have made so far and Arteta praised the “aggressive” intent from the club in the transfer market.

“I said that I was extremely happy with the way that we have approached the window and how aggressive we have been,” Arteta said.

“There's still a long period still with the window open. So far we are very happy with what we've achieved and make sure at the end of the window we continue to be super happy.”
