Arsenal have had a disappointing first half to the Premier League season and they are already six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

The Gunners are playing catch up after just 15 matches into the campaign. They need a huge turnaround in order to have any chance of winning the league title.

Meanwhile, the London giants have fared well in the Carabao and Champions League, but the big question is whether they can end their trophy drought.

The club have not won any major silverware since the 2020 FA Cup. In our opinion, the board must show ambition with a mid-season swoop for a new striker.

Arsenal favourite Martin Keown recently said that the Gunners need someone who can score more goals and be ‘more ruthless‘. We believe Alexander Isak would be a perfect fit.

The Newcastle United striker has been identified as the number one forward target for next summer, but the Gunners need to prepone their transfer plans for him.

Isak would be a good upgrade on Kai Havertz up front. The German has 10 goals from 22 games this term, but he does not possess the added mobility of Isak.

The Swede has been in fantastic form since his return from a broken toe in October. He has netted six goals and provided two assists in his last eight appearances.

Aside from this, he has fared brilliantly with his link-up play from deep-lying positions. He was exceptional against Liverpool this month with five key passes at St. James’ Park.

The Magpies are currently in a strong position to keep Isak with three-and-a-half years left in his deal.

Despite this, Arsenal should test their resolve at the turn of the year. The Magpies are 12th in the standings and face a tough task of qualifying for the Champions League.

Eddie Howe’s side may have to sanction another big-money exit to balance their books and the Gunners should make an ambitious offer for Isak in the winter transfer window.

Isak, who has been described as ‘world-class‘ by manager Howe, could cost over £100 million due to his lengthy contract, but this is not beyond the Gunners’ reach.

Arsenal made a massive statement by signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in the winter of 2018. The hierarchy must make a similar move.
