Arsenal opened the new Premier League campaign with a gritty 1-0 victory at Old Trafford, a reminder that they can still grind out results even when their rhythm falters. Set-pieces remain their hidden weapon, but doubts linger about the defence’s vulnerability and the attack’s blunt edge. Yet, amid those questions, there was one clear positive: the Arsenal injuries list is shrinking at just the right time.
Leandro Trossard has spent much of pre-season on the sidelines, nursing a groin injury sustained during the Gunners’ tour of Asia against Tottenham. His absence was never expected to be long-term, and Mikel Arteta’s calm tone throughout hinted at quiet confidence.
“I think he’s much better. I think he will be able to train again tomorrow, and if that’s the case, he will be fit,” the Arsenal manager confirmed before the trip to Manchester United.
That prediction proved accurate. Trossard trained on Saturday and made the bench at Old Trafford on Sunday, signalling his rehabilitation is almost complete. The Belgian looks well-placed to make his first appearance of the season against Leeds on 23 August.
While Trossard’s recovery lifts spirits, the story remains very different for Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian’s last Arsenal appearance came in January during the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, and his knee has been a persistent obstacle ever since.

Jesus underwent another surgery to repair a cruciate ligament problem, extending an already frustrating pattern of setbacks. His updates across the summer have kept fans engaged, but the reality is he is still months away from stepping back onto the pitch. Arsenal’s expectation is for a possible return in autumn 2025.
That Arsenal can now almost field a full squad is significant. Last season’s title bid faltered partly because of fitness issues at crucial moments. Now, with Trossard back in contention and Jesus working toward recovery, there is renewed optimism. The challenge will be to ensure these returning players stay fit as the intensity of the season builds.
For supporters, the picture is finally looking brighter. Arsenal’s injuries are clearing, momentum is gathering, and the new campaign feels alive with possibility.
