Arsenal have been warned that RB Leipzig have no plans to sell Benjamin Sesko before the January transfer window slams shut.

Sesko is a long-term target of Arsenal, who are in the market for a forward this month after injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.

But asked by Sky Germany if it remains the case that Sesko is definitely not allowed to leave RB Leipzig this month, the club’s head coach, Marco Rose, said: “Yes, that’s still the case!”

Arsenal were chasing Sesko last summer, but the 21-year-old ended up staying at Leipzig and signing a new contract.

As part of that agreement, it has been reported that Sesko can leave at the end of this season for around £60million.

But Leipzig are determined to not let him go in the middle of the current campaign as they are fighting for Champions League qualification.

Leipzig are currently sat fifth in the Bundesliga table and they are just one point off the Champions League places.

Sesko has enjoyed a steady season and he has scored eight league goals and provided two assists in 17 league games.

Arsenal are working hard to bring in a forward this month and Mikel Arteta revealed on Tuesday he is in “constant contact” with the club’s owners.

“We are in constant contact, obviously - understanding the situation, how the team is evolving,” said Arteta.

“Obviously, some of the big news that we had, unfortunately, they weren’t that positive. How we’re feeling about it, they’ve been super supportive and they continue to be so.”

Asked if the owners are prepared to back him this month, Arteta added: “First of all, it’s backing the club and themselves, you know, because we all want the best.

“The decision that we make is not to back anybody, it’s just something that makes sense, that is going to improve the squad, that is going to give us the ability to perform to a level and to win the things that we want to do. If that’s the case and we have the resources to do it, we will try.”
