Liverpool boss Arne Slot has sent a warning to his Liverpool players, insisting that their rivals are “not standing still” while predicting a closer title race next season.

Even though Slot’s side have brought in a number of players this summer, other top Premier League sides including Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea have also bolstered their squads.

The Reds won the Premier League by ten points in Slot’s debut season but he believes that the Premier League will be more competitive this year.

“You need to make the next step in everything you do beacause our competitors are not sitting still as well.

“Not only are they trying to improve aswell, but they have already made lots of signings as well have done.

“That is why the upcoming year is going to be a very interesting Premier League season.”

Liverpool have brought in Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong so far and Slot believes that they will change the way his side will play in the upcoming season.

“I think there is room for improvement in every department. We have added a few extra weapons this summer.

“Florian [Wirtz] has alot of creativity in the final third that we lost with Trent, a lot of creativity from the back. Trent’s crosses and picking out runners were so special and I think Flo has this quality as well in a different position.”

“He brings that creativity and the pace of Hugo [Ekitike] and the pace of Milos [Kerkez] and Jeremie [Frimpong] were also important today”

Despite the new signings all playing their first matches at Anfield, it was instead 16-year-old academy talent Rio Ngumoha that made the stadium cheer loudest with a goal and an assist.

“Rio is showing good things, every day, every time in pre season.”
