Napoli manager Antonio Conte acknowledged his team’s efforts in their 3-0 defeat to Atalanta.
Speaking to DAZN (via Calcio Napoli 24) following Napoli’s 3-0 loss to Atalanta, Antonio Conte lauded his team’s performance against La Dea despite conceding thrice in the match and being handed their second defeat of the season. He said: “Could we have done something more? I have to be honest, the team performed in the right way. In terms of desire, I can’t say anything to the team, the statistics were balanced and we spent a lot of energy on high pressure.”
Ademola Lookman doubled Atalanta’s lead within the half-hour mark and Mateo Retegui dealt the final blow in added time. The Partenopei were expected to consolidate their lead at the top of the Serie A table ahead of the match but it seems like Conte got it all wrong, allowing Gian Piero Gasperini’s men to add momentum to their league leaders chase.
Conte admitted that Atalanta were superior in their gameplan and demanded respect for the opponent, reminding everyone of their Europa League triumph last season. He said: “We met a strong team, even stronger than us at the moment. We are doing well but Atalanta is stronger because they have been on a journey for many years and last year, they won the Europa League against the German champions.”
