Anthony Gordon was subbed off on Sunday, when pulling up holding his hip.
Harvey Barnes replaced him and Gordon looked in obvious discomfort as he walked around the perimeter of the pitch, Barnes going on to get the third goal and ensure the win over Nottingham Forest.
After the match, Eddie Howe gave this update on Anthony Gordon:
“It looks like a similar problem that he had the other week with his hip. We hope it is not serious. I don’t know more at the moment. I would say he is a doubt for England because he came off.”
Many Newcastle United fans were expecting an early Monday official announcement from club and/or country, confirming Gordon’s withdrawal from the England squad, but none came.
The England squad were scheduled to meet up early on Monday and have their first training session today.
Finally at 7pm on Monday night, an England update…
England squad update official announcement – 11 November 2024:
‘Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has received his first senior call up.
Jarrod Bowen and Jarrad Branthwaite along with the uncapped Tino Livramento and James Trafford have also been added to Lee Carsley’s squad.
This follows the loss of eight players ahead of this week’s UEFA Nations League fixtures.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Cole Palmer, Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are all unavailable.
A 23-man squad will now prepare for Thursday’s trip to Greece and Sunday’s match against Republic of Ireland at Wembley.’
So Tino Livramento upgraded from the England Under 21s and so this is a third senior squad in a row, one of five additions, whilst eight named as dropping out, though Anthony Gordon not amongst them.
However, the official England Twitter/X account has today published a video showing the England players arriving earlier today AND the great news is that Anthony Gordon was amongst those featured.
A massive relief that seemingly no serious injury and indeed appears set to be involved in these two upcoming England matches, away against Greece on Thursday 14 November and home to the Republic of Ireland on Sunday 17 November.
So it is three Newcastle United players now in the England squad, with Anthony Gordon, Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, three of the now 23 man squad.
***Now at 10.10pm, the official England Twitter/X account, also publishing a photo as well…
The full England squad for the November internationals from Lee Carsley, included in this official FA announcement – 7 November 2024:
The England men’s senior squad to play Greece and Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League has been selected.
Interim head coach Lee Carsley has picked a 26-man group for the double-header, which kicks-off with a crucial trip to Athens on Thursday 14 November before Ireland are the visitors to Wembley on Sunday 17 November.
Carsley has selected two new faces for November’s squad, with defenders Taylor Harwood-Bellis of Southampton and Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall both named in a senior group for the first time.

And Hall joins the seniors having also helped the MU21s this term, featuring in their victories over Ukraine and Azerbaijan in October.
The Three Lions squad will meet at St. George’s Park on Monday, where they will begin their preparations for the two games and what will be the final camp in charge for Carsley.
Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Levi Colwill (Chelsea), Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace), Lewis Hall (Newcastle United), Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Southampton), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Rico Lewis (Manchester City), Kyle Walker (Manchester City)
