Another Chelsea youngster departs on loan – with more exits likely to follow | OneFootball

Chelsea youngster Brodi Hughes has joined League One side AFC Wimbledon on loan.

The 20-year-old defender has been a regular for the Under-21 side but Chelsea are now keen for him to get more game time at the senior level.

He has spent his entire career at Chelsea, joining at the age of eight, and becomes the latest Blues youngster to leave on loan.

“Brodi is quite familiar to us,” Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson said. “He had a little stint training with us when we first came back from Spain in pre-season and then he played in the Millwall pre-season game and did well.

“He’s with us now and we’re really pleased to have him. He gives us another option, gives us some more depth and competition for the squad and he’s a great lad as well with a great attitude, so he’s going to fit in great.”

He might not be the last Chelsea youngster to depart before the transfer window shuts on Monday. Roma are keen on signing 19-year-old Tyrique George before the window shuts, with Chelsea looking to add two wingers to Enzo Maresca’s squad in Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte, which would see George’s opportunities for playing time reduced.

Garnacho has arrived at Chelsea ahead of completing his expected move from Manchester United, while the Blues would like to bring in Buonanotte on loan.

Alfie Gilchrist has also joined West Brom on a permanent deal, with the 21-year-old having spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku is expected to join AC Milan on a permanent deal.

Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Axel Disasi are also free to depart should deals be agreed.
