After just a year in Brittany, Andrés Gomez (22) could return to South America. L’Équipe understands that the Ligue 1 side was nearing a loan move for the 22-year-old winger to join Vasco da Gama in the Brasileiro Serie A.

The Brazilian side parted ways with another former Ligue 1 player this year in French international Dimitri Payet (38). Last season, Vasco finished 10th in the Brazilian top-flight, earning a place in the Copa Sudamericana.

Gomez came to Rennes in August 2024 from Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer. The Colombian appeared in just five Ligue 1 fixtures for Les Rennais last season, scoring one goal.

An agreement for a loan move to Brazil is apparently well underway between both clubs and would come with a reported purchase option of between €5-€7.5m.

Gomez came to Rennes for a reported transfer fee of €10m. The 2022 winner of the Copa Colombia with his original club Millonarios, is under contract with the French club until June 2029. Stade Rennais went through three managers last season, winning just three of their first 12 matches of the domestic campaign. They finished the season in a respectable 12th place.

The player, who turns 23 in September, has collected six caps for the Colombia national team, finding the back of the net on two of those occasions, including the equalising goal in their 3-2 victory over Uruguay last November in 2026 CONMEBOL World Cup 2026 qualifying.
