With possession-based football all the rage, the number of high crosses into the box may be dwindling in the upper echelons of the game, but aerial ability in attack remains a formidable weapon - and Coventry City were top of the pile when it came to headed goals in the EFL last season.
Although the Sky Blues eventually bowed out of the Championship play-offs following a semi-final defeat to Sunderland, Coventry improved greatly under the stewardship of Frank Lampard, who controversially succeeded the long-serving Mark Robins back in November of last year.
Coventry were in the middle of the Championship pack when it came to overall aerial duels won last season, averaging 18 per game, but they were an absolute handful in the air from attacking situations - a whopping 20 of their 66 league goals (30%) last season stemming from headers.
That figure puts the Midlanders out on their own in this regard across the entire '72' last term, the next most prolific sides being League One outfits Wycombe and Wrexham, and Bromley in League Two - all of whom nodded home 16 goals apiece in 2024/25.
In terms of the individuals to do most damage in the air for Coventry last season, the three outstanding players to highlight are Jack Rudoni (6 headed goals), Bobby Thomas (4) and Ellis Simms (4). Rudoni deserves special mention given that he was also a huge creator of goals for the Sky Blues last term with 12.
