In addition to standout performers like Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr., many underappreciated stars at Real Madrid played crucial roles in the team’s success last season.

One of them was Ferland Mendy, who enjoyed a resurgence in the left-back position and was instrumental to the Merengues for much of 2024.

The Frenchman’s contributions were pivotal in helping the team secure the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga, and the UEFA Champions League

Despite earning immense praise from coach Carlo Ancelotti, who even called him the best defensive full-back in the world, Mendy finds himself at a career crossroads.

Indeed, according to Tomas Gonzalez-Martin (h/t RM4 Arab), Mendy has received offers from Paris Saint-Germain and several Premier League clubs, as he faces a critical decision over his future.

Mendy’s sturdy, defensive style contrasts the profile of attacking full-backs preferred in England, complicating the possibility of him joining the Premier League.

It is claimed that Mendy has turned down Real Madrid’s renewal offer, holding out for a better deal. As such, the 29-year-old could also part ways as a free agent next year if a contract extension or sale does not materialize.

This contractual standoff has broader implications for Real Madrid’s squad planning. After all, the potential arrival of Alphonso Davies raises questions about his coexistence with Mendy.

In fact, reports have previously made the case that Mendy could be shown the exit door in the event Davies is signed, as there would be a potential overbooking in the squad.

As such, Mendy’s future in the Spanish capital appears to be up in the air. It remains to be seen if Los Blancos will hand out an improved contract offer or cash out on him this summer in light of his interest from abroad.
