An FC Porto midfielder wants to move to Manchester City but can they get a deal done? | OneFootball

With deadline day upon us, it is clear to see that Manchester City are in desperate need of a midfielder or two. That was obvious to see as Pep Guardiola’s side was picked apart by Arsenal at the Emirates last night. One player who could prove to be a welcome addition to the Manchester City squad is FC Porto midfielder Nico Gonzàlez. Now a new report indicates that Gonzàlez is keen to move to the world champions. It now remains to be seen if City can sign the talented young midfielder before the transfer window slams shut.

Srinivas Sadhanand has reported for TBR Football that Nico Gonzàlez is keen to move to the Etihad before the transfer window closes. Furthermore, Sadhanand reports that the young Spanish midfielder has informed FC Porto of his wishes. It is also included in the TBR Football report that Gonzàlez has already agreed personal terms with Manchester City. Lastly, the TBR Football report indicates that City have offered £30 million for the FC Porto midfielder. But the Portuguese giants want Manchester City to pay the full £50.1 million release clause in Gonzàlez’s contract as reported by TBR Football.

If Nico Gonzàlez is the midfielder Manchester City wants, they simply must sign him before the transfer window closes.

There is no need to go over Manchester City’s need to sign a midfielder. That’s been covered a host of times before. But if a reminder wasn’t needed you only had to watch Mikel Arteta’s side cut Manchester City to ribbons last night. It’s a need that must be addressed. If Nico Gonzàlez is the midfielder City want they simply have to complete the deal today.

It remains to be seen if Manchester City will just stump up and pay the release clause in the contract of Nico Gonzàlez. You do get the impression to sign the FC Porto midfielder they may well just have to bite the bullet and pay up. It’s not the time for City to get stuck in protracted transfer negotiations. They need to sign a midfielder and move on. If Nico Gonzàlez is that player it seems a simple deal to complete. That’s if Manchester City do intend to sign the Spanish midfielder this month.

Whether or not Manchester City move for Nico Gonzàlez today remains to be seen. Given the importance of Gonzalez to FC Porto it doesn’t seem likely that they will budge on their asking price. That seems to be the stumbling block in any potential deal for Manchester City to sign a player they are in desperate need of.
