Alisha Lehmann has been named in the Women’s Euro 2025 squad for hosts Switzerland.
There were doubts over the Juventus forward’s place in the squad after she had been left out of a number of recent squad selections by manager Pia Sundhage.
She was again left out of Switzerland’s last squad selection for their Nations League clashes with France and Norway.
However, she received a late call-up after FC Koln midfielder Alena Bienz withdrew because of an ankle injury.
The former Aston Villa star came off the bench during both games and has done enough to convince Sundhage to include her in Switzerland’s Euro 2025 squad.
Lehmann wrote on Instagram: “Couldn’t be more happy to represent my country for the Euros, I’m so greatful for the opportunity.
“Let’s make Switzerland proud and show how women’s football is growing. We are Switzerland.”
Alisha Lehmann discovered her place in the Switzerland squad for Women’s Euro 2025 in a unique way.
Those who have earned a place in Pia Sundhage’s squad have seen news of their involvement dripped out in a series of different public displays.
Lehmann’s place in the squad was confirmed via a sailing boat which had her name on.
The Juventus player shared a picture of the boat on her Instagram account and wrote: “What an honour.”
Other players were named through different public displays. Aston Villa’s Noelle Martiz had her name confirmed at a fountain in Bern, Frankfurt’s Nadine Riesen’s place was confirmed via a drone at her first youth club, while new Chelsea goalkeeper Livia Peng’s place was confirmed with a burger on a restaurant menu.
The Switzerland squad for the upcoming Women’s Euro 2025 features five players from the Women’s Super League.
Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti makes the squad fresh off the Gunners’ triumph in the Women’s Champions League this past season.
Two of the five players have only completed moves to the WSL this summer.
Goalkeeper Livia Peng joins Chelsea on July 1st once her contract with Werder Bremen expires. While there is also a place for 18-year-old teenage sensation Iman Beney, fresh off her move to WSL side Manchester City.
Also representing the WSL, are Tottenham defender Luana Buhler and Aston Villa’s Noelle Maritz.
The squad does not include former Chelsea striker Ramona Bachmann who misses her home Euros due to an ACL injury.
