Eddie Howe has left the door open for the player to re-integrate with the squad as he continues to hold out for a move to Liverpool
Alexander Isak is set to snub an invitation to attend the Professional Footballers’ Association’s awards gala this week as he continues to push for a move away from Newcastle.
The Swede is among those shortlisted for the prestigious PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, but he may not attend the ceremony at the Manchester Opera House.
He is nominated for the 2025 PFA Players’ Player of the Year award alongside Bruno Fernandes, Alexis Mac Allister, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, and Mohamed Salah.
According to BBC Sport, he is yet to confirm his attendance for the ceremony, with sources close to the player suggesting he does not plan to.
Isak has been at the centre of an acrimonious transfer saga in recent weeks as he looks to force through a move to Liverpool.
He excused himself from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia, reporting a minor injury, but continued to train alone throughout the summer.
He is yet to train with the Newcastle first team since they returned from tour as he holds out for Liverpool to submit a second offer. They saw a £110million bid rejected last month.
Speaking after Newcastle’s goalless draw with Aston Villa at the weekend, head coach Eddie Howe said Isak was welcome to reintegrate with the squad, but that he wanted clarity over the situation soon.
He said: “Nothing has changed. The door is well and truly open.
"He has to decide what he wants to do. We would like a resolution. We need that clarity. You don't need any kind of distraction.
"I am not in control of that. There is one person who can control that. Let's wait and see. I have made my stance clear. I am concentrating on the team."
