Alexander Isak has bid a fond farewell to Newcastle after he completed a controversial Deadline Day transfer to Liverpool.

He eventually joined the Premier League champions Liverpool for a British record £125million fee.

Writing on his social media channels, though, Isak took a more sentimental stance, describing his three seasons in the north-east as ‘unforgettable’.

"I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together,” he wrote.

“Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs.

“It has been an honour to be part of the journey from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in over 70 years.

"Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle."

His statement, accompanied by a highlight reel of his finest moments in black-and-white stripes, is in stark contrast to that issued by his agent, Vlado Lemic.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he hinted he was pleased to no longer be associated with the Magpies: "It's nice when you have someone to be with, but it's even nicer when you know who you will never be with again."

Isak is now on international duty with Sweden, but could make his Liverpool debut as the Reds visit Burnley in their first outing after the break.
