Tottenham Hotspur have surprisingly pivoted towards Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho in the final days of the winter transfer window.
Spurs were actively targeting Bayern Munich's teenage French forward Mathys Tel and had struck a deal worth €60m (£50m) with the Bundesliga giants. Club chairman Daniel Levy flew out to Bavaria to thrash out personal terms for the 19-year-old only to be rebuffed by the player and his representatives.
As the transfer window's conclusion on Monday night hurtles into view, Tottenham have not given up hope of securing attacking reinforcements for Ange Postecoglou's injury-ravaged outfit.
United forward Garnacho is now thought to be of interest to Tottenham, according to the Daily Mail. The report sets United's asking price at £60m, but other outlets suggest that the Red Devils would be willing to agree a fee in the region of £50m - the same sum Spurs were willing to splash on Tel.
Garnacho is only one year older than the Frenchman and has extensive experience in the Premier League. Despite appearing in all but one of United's 36 fixtures across all competitions this season, the Argentina international has been made available for sale as United try to raise funds ahead of a summer rebuild.

Chelsea have been consistently credited with an interest in the fleet-footed forward while Napoli publicly revealed that they consider Garnacho to be a viable replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Ruben Amorim dropped Garnacho along with Marcus Rashford for December's Manchester derby as punishment for the performances in training of both players. While the England international has remained in exile, Garnacho has forced his way back into United's first team.
"He changed right away since that game against Manchester City, the way he understands things, he understands that I just want to help him and I just want to win games," Amorim gushed this week. "I think all the merit is for Garnacho. He is improving and we want to continue to improve with Garnacho."
