A third defeat of the season brought the Baggies’ 12-match unbeaten run to an end and leaves them in 8th place in the Championship two points off the top six and ten points off the automatic promotion spots.

Two goals conceded brings this season’s tally to sixteen in twenty-one games which has only been bettered by three Albion sides in history, most recently in 1974/75 when a 1-0 victory at Bolton Wanderers put Don Howe’s team in fourth place in Division Two with just 15 goals conceded. On Boxing Day 1908, a goalless draw with Birmingham City kept Fred Everiss’s team top of the table having conceded just 13 goals from 21 games, while a 3-0 win at Burnley by Frank Heaven’s side in January 1902 also kept them top of Division Two, 7 points clear of Preston North End, with just 15 goals conceded.

Looking ahead to game 22, Albion have not lost the 22nd game of a second tier season since 2001 with seven wins in the last nine seasons at this level. Some of the memorable games in that run include the 3-2 win at St Andrew’s in 2019 when a Charlie Austin double completely turned the game around, while back in 2007, it was Zoltán Gera who scored twice as Tony Mowbray’s side beat Charlton Athletic 4-2.
