Ajax are in the market for a new winger before Monday’s transfer deadline. According to De Telegraaf, the Dutch giants have put together a four-man shortlist with FC Barcelona’s Ansu Fati included. The club are currently in negotiations with Wolves over bringing Portuguese winger Carlos Forbs back from his loan spell, but if they’re unable to do so, they’re highly likely to make a move for Barça‘s 22-year-old forward.
Ansu Fati has featured just eight times across all competitions this season. Head coach Hansi Flick has favoured other players over the academy product, and injuries have also affected his playing time. Fati spent last season on loan with Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion.
Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo is on the shortlist, compiled by the club’s technical director Alex Kroes. Matondo, 24, has fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox having struggled with injuries. The Scottish Premiership side are open to his departure and Ajax could make a move if talks don’t progress with their other candidates.
The final player Ajax are considering is Go Ahead Eagles forward Oliver Edvardsen. The 25-year-old Norwegian has impressed in the Eredivisie this season, netting eight goals in just 14 league appearances and providing four assists in that time. All four of those players will be discussed in the coming days, with Ajax preparing to make a move for just one of them.
