Ajax youngster Jaydon Banel swapped Amsterdam for Burnley on Monday evening, with Benjamin Tahirović also leaving for Danish side Brondby.
The 20-year-old Banel’s contract with the Amsterdam club was due to expire at the end of June. He played for the first team occasionally last season but disappeared from view this year. The attacker did play 15 matches in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with Jong Ajax. Banel has signed with a Burnley side that are third in the Championship. His contract runs until mid-2029.
“Despite his development, the prospects of playing time for Ajax’s first team were limited”, says Marijn Beuker, Ajax’s director of football. “This transfer offers him the chance to develop further in a new environment. We have thanked Jaydon for his efforts and wished him much success in England.”
In other news on Monday evening, Ajax and Brondby IF reached an agreement on the transfer of Benjamin Tahirović to the Danish club. The midfielder (21) was touted for an exit and was initially linked with Championship club Oxford United, and Serie A sides Torino and Udinese.
However, Denmark won out as the chosen destination and he signed a deal that runs until June 30, 2028. Brondby are currently fifth in the Danish Superliga.
