29-year-old had been a free agent since his Juventus contract expired at the end of last season
Adrien Rabiot has agreed a deal to join Marseille despite being strongly linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.
Rabiot had been available on a free transfer after leaving Juventus at the end of last season, but will now become a Marseille player subject to passing a medical.
Manchester United were among a number of Premier League clubs that had previously been linked with the 29-year-old.
However, he is set to become the latest high-profile recruit for Roberto De Zerbi’s side following the arrivals of the likes of Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Neal Maupay.
The club said in a statement: "Olympique de Marseille announces that it has reached an agreement in principle with Adrien Rabiot for the arrival of the French international midfielder at the club.
"The player will sign with OM subject to the results of the medical examination."

United have tracked Rabiot for a number of years, but decided to sign Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain this summer instead in a deal that could reach £50.5million.
Rabiot’s mother and agent Veronique claimed that United tried to bring her son to Old Trafford two years ago.
“United wanted to meet me to illustrate their interest in Adrien, but we never talked about money in detail because he quickly decided to stay in Turin,” she said.
Rabiot played a key role in France’s midfield at Euro 2024 before they were knocked out by eventual champions Spain in the semi-finals. He has yet to make an appearance this season and is set to join a Marseille side who are currently second in Ligue 1.
