Mark Wotte will temporarily take over from Joris Mathijsen as technical director of ADO Den Haag. The 64-year-old former player and coach of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie club will take over the interim role effective immediately.

“I want to help the club, where I joined as a young player at the end of July 1979 and later worked as a first-team player, youth coach, head of development, head coach, and technical manager, return to the highest level as soon as possible,” Wotte said in a press release about his temporary appointment.

“Now it’s mainly about looking ahead to the new season. In the coming weeks, I’ll be working with full energy, together with the representatives of the majority shareholder, the people within the organisation, sponsors, the staff, the players, and of course the supporters, to take the right steps. The goal is clear: to bring ADO Den Haag back to where it belongs: the Eredivisie.”

Wotte can be considered a true football nomad. He was most recently active as manager of the Syrian youth team. Before that, he worked in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Scotland, and England, among other countries. In the Netherlands, Wotte served as director of player policy at Feyenoord and as manager at RKC Waalwijk and Willem II.
