Adli sends message to Milan management after derby loss: “We need strong players” | OneFootball

Yacine Adli certainly spoke his mind after AC Milan’s derby defeat against Inter last night, suggesting that the ownership must invest in stronger players to win now.

Milan lost 2-1 against Inter in the Derby della Madonnina at San Siro on Monday night, which meant that they won their 20th league title.

As they so often do in these games, the Rossoneri started in the worst possible way when Francesco Acerbi scored from a corner, then Marcus Thuram doubled the advantage with a shot from the edge of the box early in the second half.

Fikayo Tomori’s late finish from close range halved the deficit but in truth Milan got what they deserved after another very questionable defensive performance.

Adli spoke to SportMediaset after the game to reflect on what was a difficult night for his side, and his comments were relayed by Calciomercato.com.

What are your emotions?

“It burns a lot. Today was not just a derby but it was much more because we knew that Inter could win the Scudetto and we wanted to give satisfaction to our fans, who we have disappointed so much this season. Words are not enough to describe what I feel inside.

“Frustration? Even more. We can’t always be clean, act with our heads. There were so many emotions today. I made that gesture [kicking objects on the bench] when I came off because it’s much more than frustration.

“It’s disappointing… all these people who are rooting for us. They travel a lot of kilometres for us. It will stay inside me for a long time.”

Is there a difference between the two projects?

“We and Inter are two different teams. Inter have had a project for 4/5 years, they play in the same way, they have players who have been here for a long time. A team with maturity and experience. We are a squad that has changed 10 players. A lot can happen in a year.

“Our project is longer but we have to do much more. If the club wants to win we must have a strong team, we need strong players. I will fight to grow every day in training, to give more. Because it’s not enough to say that we are young and the journey is long. We must act every day.”

What about the rumours surrounding Pioli?

“We are always focused on the pitch, we try to give everything. Today it wasn’t enough. For our fans we are more than disappointed.”
