A former teammate and close friend of Real Madrid star Luka Modrić was waiting on the sideline, upon the Croatian stepping off the Santiago Bernabéu pitch as a player for the very last time.
Modrić, of course, is fresh off an altogether emotional outing on Saturday afternoon.
After it was announced this week that the 39-year-old’s expiring contract terms would not be renewed, he was afforded a starting berth in Real Madrid’s final La Liga outing of the term, against Real Sociedad.
Late on in Spain’s capital, with Los Blancos boasting a 2-0 lead, Modrić, in turn, was afforded his special moment.
Hooked from proceedings by departing boss Carlo Ancelotti, the former Tottenham man was provided with a guard of honour by the two sets of players.
Looking understandably emotional, Modrić went on to make his way off the pitch, greeted by his wife and children on the sideline.
And also standing by, as alluded to above, was none other than Toni Kroos.
12 months on from bringing his own legendary Real Madrid stint to a close, Kroos was ready and waiting to embrace his former midfield partner, and close friend:
