The last few seasons have brought a mix of hope and change for Newcastle United. The club have pulled themselves from mid-table to European competitions. The team have come alive under Eddie Howe, but consistency in front of goal remains a big issue. Last year, the club played attacking football, yet wasted many chances. Striker Alexander Isak’s fitness and future have repeatedly come under question.

The club are now looking for an attacker who can create chances, finish them and fill the void left by the possible departure of the Swede. Many names are floating around in the market, but there are only a few players who know the tempo and physical demands of the Premier League firsthand. Newcastle United have previously shown interest in players who have proven their skills in the league. With this in mind, the club approached Brentford a few weeks ago.

According to a report by TalkSPORT, Yoane Wissa may now part ways with Brentford. Initially, the club refused to sell him, but even after the departure of Bryan Mbeumo, the Bees’ stand have softened a bit recently. Both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the 28-year-old striker, but Newcastle‘s efforts are already in full swing.

Wissa scored 20 goals and also gave five assists last season. He has been at Brentford since 2021 and has taken charge of the team’s attack in the absence of Ivan Toney. Newcastle United tried to sign him in July. The club had offered £30 million, which included £5 million in add-ons. However, Brentford had clearly stated that they would not negotiate for less than £50 million.

Can Yoane Wissa be the solution to Newcastle’s striker problems?

Yoane Wissa has pace, finishing skills and experience of playing at the tempo of the Premier League. His runs are dangerous both in and out of the box. The 28-year-old constantly stretches the defence and creates space for creative players. Newcastle United need that kind of energy, especially with Isak’s future uncertain.

The question now is, is he worth £50m? Brentford are no longer as rigid, and Newcastle United should not let this opportunity slip away. If the club structure the deal smartly while staying within FFP, this deal could strengthen the attack in the long term. It is hard to find a better name in the striker market who has Premier League experience and form. So Wissa must be given one last try.
