Tammy Abraham Offered to Manchester United in Transfer Window

Former Chelsea Striker Eager for Premier League Return

Manchester United’s hunt for a striker continues to evolve as the club’s rebuilding efforts gather pace under Ruben Amorim. With Liam Delap poised to join Chelsea despite strong United interest, attention has now turned elsewhere. As reported by TBR Football, “Manchester United are one of the clubs who have been approached by his representatives regarding a possible move.”

The player in question is Tammy Abraham,  the former Chelsea striker who is looking to return to England after a mixed spell in Italy. According to TBR, Abraham “wants a move back to the Premier League” and has shown a “willingness to move” to Old Trafford.

Abraham spent the 2024/25 season on loan at AC Milan from AS Roma, scoring 10 goals and registering seven assists in 45 appearances. Decent numbers, but far from explosive, and not quite enough to convince Milan to make the move permanent.

Amorim’s Restructure Leaves Room for Another Striker

While Amorim has already welcomed Matheus Cunha from Wolves, the Brazilian is expected to play as one of two attacking midfielders in the system. That leaves room for a more traditional centre-forward, someone who can lead the line, hold up play, and convert chances with consistency.

United’s need for such a player was evident last season. A dismal 15th-place finish in the Premier League, coupled with a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, underscored the need for a complete attacking overhaul. Abraham, with Premier League pedigree and international experience, offers a short-to-medium-term solution.

But this is not a one-horse race. TBR confirms that “Man Utd face competition for Tammy Abraham,” with West Ham, Everton, and Newcastle also interested. Aston Villa and Leeds United are monitoring the situation too, while TEAMtalk adds that “West Ham have already asked for information… with Everton having also made enquiries.”

Abraham’s Contract and Roma’s Stance

Abraham remains under contract at Roma until 2027. The club spent £34 million on the striker in 2021, but his path under José Mourinho, and then Daniele De Rossi, has been inconsistent, shaped by injuries and tactical tweaks.

What’s become clear is that Roma are open to offers. AC Milan have no plans to keep him, and Abraham’s representatives are now actively searching for a route back to England.

United, despite their underwhelming league finish, remain a major draw, especially under a manager with a modern football philosophy and the ambition to return to the Champions League.

Risks and Rewards for United

There’s little doubt that Abraham, at 27, still has his best years ahead of him. His physicality, aerial presence and off-ball movement remain strong. Yet questions linger over his ability to produce at an elite level week in, week out.

For United, the key lies in price, structure, and alternatives. If Abraham can be secured on favourable terms, he may offer a cost-effective Plan B, particularly if top targets prove out of reach or unavailable until later in the window.

But for a club determined to return to English football’s top table, compromise must be balanced with ambition. Abraham’s availability might be tempting, but United will need to weigh that against the broader direction of their rebuild.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Manchester United supporters, Tammy Abraham’s name won’t spark fireworks, but that doesn’t mean he should be dismissed. He’s proven in the Premier League, still relatively young, and clearly hungry to prove himself again after a frustrating stint in Italy.

After missing out on Liam Delap, the idea of turning to a player who already has Premier League experience does make some sense. Abraham could fill a role, especially if Amorim is looking for a more physical option to complement Cunha and the No.10s. His link-up play has improved over the years, and while he’s not prolific, he does offer something different.

That said, this can’t be the marquee striker signing fans were promised post-Klopp. If Abraham comes in as a squad piece or a rotational option, fine. But if this becomes the headline solution, expect pushback. Supporters want ambition, and Abraham, while capable, isn’t the high-end statement that many hoped for this summer.

As ever, context is everything. The fee, the role, the other options, all will shape how this move is received. But for now, it’s an intriguing link, not a transformative one.
