The 2025 Major League Soccer season is well underway with a number of surprises and shocking developments. One of which includes the defending MLS Cup champions themselves, the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Former LA Galaxy midfielder Marky Delgado now plays for LAFC (again), and the LA Galaxy are sticking with the 2022 MLS Cup Finals MVP John McCarthy in goal.

Rivalry is upon us and the next installment of El Trafico Clasico takes place in Carson, California on Sunday evening. This marks the 25th all-time meeting between the LA Galaxy and LAFC.

With that being said, here are three reasons why LA Galaxy win today and two why they don't.

The LA Galaxy lead the all-time series.

In the 24 previous matches, the Los Angeles Galaxy hold the ever-so-slight advantage with a record of 10-5-9. The six-time MLS Cup winners are on of the league's most successful franchises for a reason.

Thus, this statistic is noteworthy and may give LA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney and his players the edge on Sunday evening.

Home field advantage is in favor of the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Last year, the LA Galaxy went unbeaten in all 16 of their regular season matches played in Carson, California. Dignity Health Sports Park has been brutual to visiting soccer clubs.

On September 14, 2024, the Los Angeles Galaxy were down 2-0 at halftime. With four unanswered goals by the LA Galaxy, LAFC dropped the contest. The 4-2 victory also allowed the LA Galaxy to become the first team in the MLS Western Conference to clinch a playoff spot last season.

LAFC did not win their match there until April 16, 2023. That's just one win there in the ten all-time matches there between these two clubs. Furthermore, the LA Galaxy are 3-0 against LAFC in games played during the month of May.

Can the LA Galaxy really go 14 games without a win?

The defending champions lost their season opener against newcomers San Diego FC, 2-1. That was the first of ten losses to open up the 2025 MLS regular season.

Their latest came on Wednesday night against one of the Eastern Conference's top teams, the Philadelphia Union. Despite the 3-2 loss, the LA Galaxy showed they have the potential to win games.
