Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-Min is in the final year of his contract. The South Korean attacker has spent nine incredible years here, but all good things come to an end.

“I’m just fully focused on this situation. This year, I want to win something that this club and these players deserve. In the future, you don’t know what’s going to happen, but I still have a contract with the club, which is the main important thing, and I just want to give everything until my contract expires.”

Son has been a mainstay for Spurs since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, becoming captain following the departure of Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane.

The 32-year-old is entering the twilight of his career but still has a lot to give the club, and the top brass must do everything within their power to retain his services at least for another year.

This season, he has recorded two goals and two assists in six games, taking his tally for the club to 164 goals and 86 assists in 414 appearances.

The 128-cap South Korean international is the only genuine elite footballer at the club. Even manager Ange Postecoglou acknowledged that he is a world-class player after his assist helped Tottenham claim a 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in February.

Postecoglou said: “I think he’s a world-class player. You look at his record in the Premier League, the toughest league in the world, his goal contributions, irrespective of what his team’s gone through, have always been right up there.”

Why Tottenham must keep Son at all cost

Son is one of the club’s most iconic figures in recent memory. He has been instrumental in the club’s success. As he enters the final year of his contract, Spurs must do everything in their power to retain his services.

Son’s presence is invaluable to the team. His goal-scoring ability, ability to create chances, and leadership qualities are irreplaceable. Losing him would be a significant blow.

Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, and Yang Min-hyuk are not ready to take the mantle and lead the team like Son does week in, week out.
