Yoane Wissa has threatened to go on strike at Brentford if he is not allowed to move to Newcastle United this summer (BBC Sport).
The 28-year-old left the club’s pre-season camp in Portugal earlier this week and flew back to England to hold talks with director of football Phil Giles.
Wissa has made it clear he wants to join Newcastle, and has even threatened to not play for the club again if he is not permitted to move to St James’ Park.
Newcastle want to sign the DR Congo international as a replacement for Callum Wilson, who left the club at the end of his contract.
The Magpies submitted an offer for Wissa that was rejected by Brentford, who insisted he is not for sale.
According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are set to move on to other targets with a deal for the forward looking unlikely.
That is highly frustrating for Wissa who only wants to join Newcastle as he feels he may not get another chance to play Champions League football.
Brentford have already sold Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard and Mark Flekken this summer. They are not ready to lose another key player.
The 28-year-old scored 20 goals and provided five assists in 39 appearances for the Bees last season.
He has one year left on his current contract, and this summer represents their last chance to collect a significant fee from his sale.
