The anticipated Yoane Wissa move from Brentford to Newcastle United has taken yet another twist.
Earlier today we reported (see below) on talks resuming between the two clubs on trying to agree a deal.
With Brentford said to be trying to hold out for a £50m valuation on the striker who will turn 29 next month.
Whilst Newcastle United had reportedly bid £25m some weeks ago, then after that was rejected had allegedly indicated that they would be prepared to go up to £35m.
The other part of the equation at the Brentford end we were told, was that they were waiting for Dango Ouattara to be signed, before a Yoane Wissa sale could be sanctioned.
Now an update from Talksport has revealed that Yoane Wissa has now unfollowed Brentford FC on social media and removed all club photos from his Instagram account, as he looks to try and leave the club. The striker wasn’t part of the Brentford matchday squad at the weekend.
Talksport say that their information is that Yoane Wisse has taken this latest action as Brentford have gone back on a pledge to let him leave for £26m, instead now demanding some £35m more.
They state that Wissa was told a year ago that he could leave for £26m in summer 2025, after he committed to staying for the 2024/25 season following Ivan Toney’s departure to Al-Ahli.
Talksport also say that their information is that Brentford have gone back on their position of a few weeks ago when they had allegedly said they would entertain such a sale
The new update also says that things are even more complicated now, as Brentford are said to be insisting that Dango Ouattara is a replacement for Bryan Mbeumo replacement, so for a Wissa exit to happen at any price, another forward must be added as well.
The Mag report earlier today – 18 August 2025:
It had been widely expected (see below) that once Brentford completed the signing of Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth, that should then lead to Yoane Wissa getting his move to Newcastle United.
However, despite Brentford completing a £42m record transfer for Ouattara AND Yoane Wissa left out of the Brentford matchday squad that lost 3-1 at Forest, there is seemingly some work to do to make the Wissa move to Newcastle a reality.
Craig Hope at The Mail says that as Newcastle United resume talks today (Monday 18 August 2025) to try and agree a deal with Brentford on Yoane Wissa, these next 24 hours will be crucial.
United have waited for the Brentford striker, knowing he is desperate to come to Newcastle, but the reality is that now an outcome is needed either way with just two weeks to go until the transfer window closes.
Due to turn 29 next month, Yoane Wissa is desperate to play for a Champions League club and if this opportunity goes by, it is highly likely his chance will have gone.
The man from The Mail states that his information is that Brentford are wanting to stick to their £50m valuation on Yoane Wissa, Craig Hope saying there are even claims now that their valuation could be as high as £60m.
Hope says that the Newcastle United owners won’t agree to a £50m or higher deal for a player who will only go down in value as soon as he signs, as they look to do a deal that is a diversion from their usual no older than 25 when buying outfield players.
This new report though says that Newcastle United are hopeful of still reaching agreement with Brentford today.
Newcastle United were reported to have made a £25m offer for Yoane Wissa and there was a claimed willingness to go up as high as £35m.
My guess is that a deal could be struck at around £40m.
However, if Brentford aren’t willing to meet Newcastle United in the middle then no reason why NUFC fans should start acting like Liverpool fans crying on because another club is desperate to hang on to one of their best players, with the money on offer not enough to tempt them.
The Mag report – 15 August 2025:
‘Yoane Wissa could now be finally set to complete his long awaited move to Newcastle United.
The transfer has been held up for some weeks now, due to the fact that Brentford wanted to bring in a new attacking signing before allowing Wissa to follow Bryan Mbeumo out of the door.
That Brentford target has been repeatedly reported as Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara, with the Cherries also said to have been waiting to land one of their own attacking targets before letting Ouattara go.
The Yoane Wissa NUFC move looks now to be imminent, as Brentford have finally reached agreement on a deal to buy the Bournemouth attacking player.
David Ornstein of The Athletic states that a £42m deal has been agreed, with Brentford paying a guaranteed £37m for Dango Ouattara, with £5m of future add-ons.
Ornstein saying Ouattara travelling to London today to take his medical and complete the move to Brentford.
It wouldn’t be the greatest surprise if Brentford are then looking to recoup a similar transfer fee from Newcastle United to cover that purchase.
Yoane Wissa will be Callum Wilson’s replacement at Newcastle United, when/if he moves from Brentford. The Alexander Isak situation separate to this, as Eddie Howe will still need either Isak or a replacement to be the main striker.
