Juventus talent Kenan Yildiz apologised to club legend Alessandro Del Piero after beating his record for the club’s youngest Champions League goal scorer.
Yildiz scored his first Champions League goal in a 3-1 win over PSV on Tuesday night, becoming the youngest Juventus goal scorer in the competition. The record previously belonged to Alessandro Del Piero.
The 2006 Italy World Cup winner was among the Sky Sport Italia pundits on Tuesday evening, and Yildiz was informed about his new record while talking to the ex-striker.
“I’m sorry about that, Alex,” the Turkey international said, smiling.
“I am a little bit nervous now. I slept well last night. We put in a great performance, and I am happy.”
Yildiz impressed as a left winger against PSV, but he’s been playing as an attacking midfielder as well.
“I enjoy playing in the middle and on the left. It depends on what the coach wants,” he said.
Del Piero commented on Yildiz’s goal as well.
“The first touch was perfect,” said the Juventus legend.
“The shot was strong and accurate. It was a spectacular goal and nobody could reach the ball. Yildiz took responsibility for wearing the No.10, so he must be respected and admired. He has quality, and he’s showing his worth.”
Yildiz signed a contract extension with the Bianconeri during the summer and was given the iconic No.10 that previously belonged to Paul Pogba.
Yildiz now has one goal and two assists in five games across all competitions this season.
