Yet another Gareth Southgate masterclass in mediocrity

Gambar artikel:Yet another Gareth Southgate masterclass in mediocrity

It’s time to put Gareth Southgate and the flags of St George away for another couple of years, get back to supporting your real and proper team.

Supporting Newcastle United is every Tynesiders birthright. Not all are clever enough to realise that though, some even waste their Geordie existence following other teams.

I’m over the moon that this bang-average Euros tournament is finally over and at least the best team won.

Ending Spain 2 England 1, there were three former Toon men in the Spain squad – Mikel Merino, Joselu and Ayoze Perez. All are fondly remembered by Newcastle United fans.

Expect all the noise now to be about Gormless Gareth getting the chop. That means that our own Eddie Howe will undoubtedly be touted for the job.

United have much more important things to think about than what happens with the national team.

It is a set-up where favouritism is rife, as was proved by how sparingly Anthony Gordon was used in the last few weeks. As one of the regular contributors/commenters on The Mag recently said, maybe Flash should have told Gormless to ram it after all.

If I hear another one of our fans mentioning the heedless chicken Conor Gallagher being a good fit for United again, I swear my napper will explode.

I want Newcastle United to play with no inhibitions and to have a go in every game. To do this you need brave players who aren’t afraid to express themselves, not just people who are there to make up the numbers and pass sideways and backwards.

Hopefully this week the ball will well and truly get rolling with regards to recruitment at St James’ Park.

Let the scribes in the south and north west carry out their own inquest into the perennial failures that are “the Ingurrlund”.

I suppose that term could be labelled at our beloved Toon but we have definitely tried to play much better football than the national team over the years.

It’s not coming home, so wake up and give ya heeds a shake.

If I hear one person lamenting about what might have been with regards Southgate’s Strollers, he or she will definitely be getting a shake of my own napper and the rubber lug.

In the end, England had been very lucky to get as far as they did and deserved what they got in the final.
