The headline news across the Spanish football landscape over the day to date has of course come in the form of Xavi’s continuity on the Barcelona bench.

After a sit-down meeting with Blaugrana president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, the former midfielder has been convinced of the merits of seeing out the final year of his contract with the club.

Focus, in turn, has already shifted towards planning for the 2024/25 campaign.

And central to as much, in the eyes of Xavi at least, comes keeping hold of the most important members of his squad.

A whole host of Barcelona’s leading stars have of course been tipped for departures from the club this summer, amid efforts to raise funds for reinforcements.

Amongst the most prominent, meanwhile, has been Ronald Araújo.

Stopper Araújo has long been on the wishlist of German heavyweights Bayern Munich, with his costly recent mistake in the Champions League’s quarter-finals having only culminated in renewed speculation that the Barca brass could be open to a sale.

If Xavi has his way, however, then no such move will be forthcoming.

As per the aforementioned MD, the Blaugrana’s headmaster, now locked in for next season, has already gone about assuring that his defensive stalwart will commit to as much, too.

‘He has already tried and will continue trying to get the Uruguayan to continue.’

In a boost to Xavi’s prospects, it is also claimed that, as things stand, Araújo only has eyes for Barcelona.
