Cash is something that the Welsh side have proved that they aren't short of.
Wrexham are edging towards signing Ipswich Town winger Nathan Broadhead in a deal reported to be worth £7.5 million.
£10 million was what the Red Dragons were said to have available to bring in a new centre-forward. Unless they've still got a spare eight-figures lying about, it appears as if they have redirected their main transfer objective to improving their options in wide areas.
According to the East Anglia Daily Times, Wrexham are almost there with the signing of Broadhead from their new Championship rivals, Ipswich.
It had been reported by The Sun that a £7 million offer was expected to be made for the 27-year-old Welsh international. Another report, this time from Sky Sports, claimed, though, that the Tractor Boys had no intention of moving on from the former Everton player this summer.
That stance has seemingly been changed by the slight boost in price that the north Wales side were willing to pay Town.
Broadhead is an accomplished EFL player. He helped Ipswich to win back-to-back promotions to the Premier League after arriving at Portman Road from Merseyside in January 2023 for £1.5 million, as per the EADT. This deal could hand Kieran McKenna's side a £6 million profit on the Welshman.
Should all go well, and this deal go through, Phil Parkinson will have a very solid option on the left-wing. Broadhead scored 13 goals and three assists in 38 appearances in his last second tier campaign.
He would also bring international experience to their ranks. Goalkeeper Danny Ward has already added some of this national team pedigree to Parkinson's squad.
As confirmed by Parkinson himself, they want to add more of it in the form of another Welsh representative - Kieffer Moore.
One concern that Wrexham may have with their potential new arrival from East Anglia is his fitness record. By no means is it poor, but there have been a couple of things picked up in recent seasons that haven't allowed Broadhead to be on the pitch at all times.
Parkinson's traditional system also isn't one that includes natural wingers. Wing-backs are used, which would presumably be where the manager would plan on using the Ipswich player, but that may not get the best out of him.
Maybe a switch up in tactics, from the back-five to a formation that uses width in areas further up the pitch, is in the offing following the Red Dragons' ascent to the second tier in order to best suit all of their new additions.
But, of course, if Parkinson can find a way to fit Broadhead into his side - and that he will, no doubt - then the addition of the Tractor Boys attacker could be a huge boost for Wrexham's ambitions of not only trying to consolidate in the Championship, but pushing for yet another promotion.
Broadhead, of course, knows what it takes to operate at the top-end of this division and get out of it entirely, having played an important role in Ipswich's promotion just two seasons ago, and that sort of pedigree, coupled with his obvious quality, means he's going to be an important figure and an exciting arrival at the Stok Cae Ras.
