“World class” Chelsea star was a £100m bargain and is a “fantastic player” | OneFootball

Moises Caicedo was Chelsea’s player of the season, and rightfully so.

He had a great campaign and was praised highly by everyone, and on the London is Blue podcast’s final match review of the Premier League season they gave a nice summary of just how good he is.

“He’s archetype of a midfield commander, a midfield general, somebody who can hold a midfield on his own,” their pundit said.

“He’s been sensational, we had no depth whatsoever coming off the bench, he had no respite, he just had to play 90 minutes over and over again, day after day; go to South America, play for Ecuador; come back, play again.”

He’s had the most gruelling season of any player in the squad in terms of minutes played and miles travelled, but has never slowed down and has shown remarkable physical resilience. Jamie Redknapp called him “world class” earlier this month.

Quiet Caicedo leads by example in young dressing room

As well as being an exceptional central midfielder he is also a great personality to have in your dressing room, as they went on to point out:

“Also the leadership qualities we’ve been crying out for and saying ‘who’s going to come out and take charge, lead by example’, he’s almost a Cesar Azpilicueta kind of player where he’s probably very soft spoken, but when he steps out on the pitch he shows it to everybody around what effort means means. Incredible player, fantastic dressing room personality, I think it’s a bargain that you paid only £100m for him.”

In a squad that is still lacking some experience and leadership, Caicedo is leading by example in a very impressive way. £100m was a lot, but if you get ten years of a top player for that, it is indeed a bargain.
